FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I download your music to use?
To download music to use in your productions you’ll need to register with Picture Lock Music. You can do with via the Music Search section. The registration process also requires information about what sort of license you want and the person who should be invoiced for the blanket licence payment.
During UK office hours ( 09.00 – 18.00 ) your online application will be authorised very quickly. Outside those hours it might take a little longer. Once registered you’ll be able to download whatever music you like, in line with the licence.
How does the licence system work?
The annual blanket licence allows you to use unlimited amounts of music for programmes destined for broadcast. Picture Lock grants just three licences to make it very simple: one per sting, one for a single programme and a third covering all usage over a twelve month period. Go to the rate card for more information about costs.
How do I pay?
You will be invoiced for the licence you choose. When you register we will need to know details of who to send the invoice to.
Why do I need a licence?
Purchasing a licence means you agree to the terms and conditions under which you can use the music. It is there to protect the library from non-permitted usage, to ensure the music is granted to the production company on a world-wide all-rights cleared basis and to protect the interests of the composers. Without a licence you can browse the library but you cannot download any of the content.
Once I have finished using the music what do I need to do?
Once you have completed your project (e.g. film, television programme, advert etc.) the production company must include the details of all the tracks used in the cue sheet which they submit to the broadcaster, distributor or relevant collection society. If you have any problems about how to complete the cue sheets please contact us. Cue sheets submitted without correct information could render your licence invalid, which would mean the music would not be cleared or could not be used.
